Compensation paid out by TUI UK Limited after holidaymaker contracts illness at the Holiday Village Red Sea in Egypt

TUI UK Limited previously admitted liability for failings at the Holiday Village Red Sea in Egypt following allegations raised by a holidaymaker who experience poor hygiene practices, birds and flies in the restaurant and being served with undercooked food.

Complaints of birds in hotel restaurants leading to illness

The said holidaymaker suffered severe abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, headaches, nausea and shivers, all symptoms which are associated with bacterial illnesses such as Salmonella, cryptosporidium, Campylobacter, E-Coli, Shigella.

The holidaymaker required emergency treatment whilst in Egypt from the hotel doctor which included the holidaymaker being placed on to a drip with injections administered and a strong course of antibiotics being prescribed.

Luckily, the holidaymaker has since made a full recovery from her ordeal and on a more positive note a settlement has now been reached with the tour operator TUI UK Limited and compensation payment of £3,500 has been made and accepted to compensate the holidaymaker for her experiences.

On-going concerns

Although the defendant has admitted liability in this particular case and a compensation payment has been made, it would appear that TUI UK Limited has failed to implement changes to prevent further occurrences of the issues reported.

We are receiving continuing reports of flies in the restaurants, undercooked food and even human faeces in the swimming pools which is unfortunately causing further holidaymakers to suffer illness and ruining family holidays.
